University of California, Berkeley May 2025
Bachelors of Science, Mechanical Engineering
Upper Division GPA- 3.65
UC Berkeley Men's Swim and Dive Team
2022 & 2023 NCAA National Champions
Thrived in a high-pressure environment, balancing rigorous academic and athletic commitments (30 hours/week each) through time management and stress management skills. While accountably showing up every day at 6 AM Monday through Saturday
Team Captain
Ankeny High School, Ankeny, IA May 2021
GPA- 3.8/4.07 Class Rank 22/427
EXPERIENCE
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Livermore, CA May 2024-Present
National Security Engineering Intern
Programmed logistic robotic automation controls using LabVIEW to manage timing and queuing for 13 gamma ray spectroscopy detectors. Enhanced lab efficiency by developing a user-friendly GUI for detector monitoring.
Programmed and calibrated Enabled Robotics interfacing between The UR-20 robot arm and MIR mobile base.
Designed and built an 80/20 sample array table for human-robot interfaces and muon detection shield supports for ultra-low background isotope counting. Leveraged SolidWorks for design and managed costs effectively.
Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, Berkeley, CA September 2023-Present
President
Demonstrated initiative and decision making by reviving a COVID-dormant club, collaborating with Professor Mohammad-reza Alam to reignite the marine engineering community at Berkeley. Successfully recruited new members, resulting in a 20+ active members and 100+ subscriber email list. Completing 5 events since the beginning of Spring 2024 term.
UC Berkeley Fluid Dynamics FLOW Lab, Berkeley, CA May 2023-Present
Volunteer Undergraduate Research Assistant
Researching with Professor Simo A. Mäkiharju in partnership with the Sailing Science Center to design and test a 6ft Flow Loop capable of laminar flow for small model testing as an exhibit for STEM education put on display at the San Francisco Exploratorium. Extreme flexibility was needed to balance schedules and budgeting for creation.
Leading the revival of a former master's thesis project, driving the incorporation of image processing into the analysis of drill bit cooling cavitation. The reset of the experiment demonstrated a keen attention to detail.
Learning Additive Manufacturing techniques for SLAUtilized 3D printing methods to assist Andrew Kokubun in creating a bubble injector array, numerous iterations where meticulous attention to tolerancing was needed.
Berkeley Formula Racing Team, Berkeley, CA September 2023-Present
Aerodynamics Subsystem Designer
Designing aerodynamics package on SolidWorks. Testing components with FEA to determine structural integrity and weight before physical realization of design.
Construction of carbon fiber composite components on the vehicle. Using molds to create proper contours and working with hexcell interlay for rigidity.
PROJECTS
Class Windmill Design December 2022
Modeled a windmill on SolidWorks in a group project, collaborating onFEA and CAD, which won best in class.
Model of a F1 V12 Engine May 2021
Utilized Autodesk Inventor to model and 3D print a scale model of an F1 V12 engine.
Car and Tractor Repair 2016-Present
Worked on engine and exhaust systems, performing maintenance, replaced spark plugs, welded exhaust, replaced shocks, etc. Mechanical problem solving on my own car and on our family farm in Iowa.
